Post Doctoral position (3 years) in characterizing the function of a transcription factor-interacting plant protein

The Plant Stress Group, University of Helsinki, Finland

The Plant Stress Group is looking for a post doctoral fellow for a three-year post doc position. The position can be filled at the earliest from 1st of January 2008 and will be filled at the latest 1st of May 2008. Applications are evaluated until a suitable candidate is found.

We have identified by mutant approach a small Arabidopsis gene family, RCD1 and five other members, SRO1-SRO5 (Similar to RCD-One). The nuclear-localized RCD1 (At1g32230) and SRO1 (At2g35510) proteins are characterized by two prominent protein domains, the WWE domain, involved in protein-protein interactions (found only in proteins related to ubiquitinylation or ribosylation of target molecules), and PARP domain involved in ADP-ribosylation. Yeast two-hybrid analyses have indicated that RCD1 and SRO1 interact with several plant-specific transcription factors involved in stress responses and plant development.
The post doctoral fellow will characterize the signaling interactions and the biochemical function of the RCD1 protein and identify and study the processes regulated by RCD1 and SRO1.
The post doc is expected to have a strong background in modern laboratory biology. Experience in protein work is required. A suitable background is Ph.D. in plant physiology/molecular biology, genetics and/or biochemistry. While desirable, previous experience with plants is not required.
